Groundwater and Water Distribution System Modeling for the Wilmington Cancer Study

Summary: Assisted in the development of groundwater flow, fate and transport, and water distribution system models to simulating the transport of NDMA and TCE from deep aquifer sources to the water supply wells and across the distribution system in the town of Wilmington. The models were developed using MODFLOW, MT3D, and WaterCAD. Results were used by MA DPH to evaluate potential linkages between NDMA exposure and the incidence of childhood cancer cases. Specific tasks included addressing peer review comments, analyzing historical data and revising input datasets, performing sensitivity and uncertainty analyses of the models, and report writing.
